A Clinical Analysis of Incisional Hernia

Abstract
Thirty post. Operative incisional hernia patients were managed the Seoul Adventist Hospital during the period between January 1988 to December 1991.
We analysed the clinical data of these patients to identify the risk factors of incisional hernia and the results were as follow:
The age ranged from 1 to 75 years.
Thirteen were male 17 were female.
The incisional hernia more likely to occur in female groups and the peak age was the 6the decade.
The most initial operation was appendectomy, 11 cases.
The incisional hernia developed in the lower longitudinal(vertical) incision. Most frequently 16 cases.
The presentation was chronic and clinical symptoms were bulging mass(96.7%), indigestion (46.7%), abdominal distension(6.7%), nausea and vomiting(4.2%) an abdominal pain(10%).
Most common known comlication following initial operation was wound problem(56.7%, 17 cases) amd 23 cases(77%) had post operative herniation with in lyr.
The factors which contributed to increasement of intraabdominal pressure such as severe vomiting, abdominal distension and coughing revealed risk factors.
Operative repair was performed in all patients, 27 patients were repaired with layer by layer closure of abdominal wall and 3 patients were repaired by massive closure of abdominal wall.
Recurrence was not found and three wound complication were developed after repair of incisional hernia.
